Does drinking water keep you younger?

Life is busy… hectic schedules, work responsibilities, family, home duties, you name it…  We find ourselves running the whole day and often barely have the time to sit down to eat and relax (if we get to eat on time).

This fast pace sometimes makes us even forget the importance of drinking water during the day. This is something we really need to pay attention to since water plays a vital role in nearly every bodily function.

Our body uses water in all its cells, organs, and tissues to help regulate its temperature and maintain other bodily functions. Because your body loses water through breathing, sweating, and digestion, it’s important to rehydrate by drinking fluids.

The fact is that skin is an organ, and just like any other part of the body your skin is made up of cells. And skin cells, like any other cell in the body, are made up of water. Without water, the organs will certainly not function properly or at their best.

If your skin is not getting the sufficient amount of water, the lack of hydration will present itself by turning your skin dry, tight and flaky. Dry skin has less resilience and is more prone to wrinkling. So certainly staying hydrated will help the appearance of your skin.

If you are not drinking fluids constantly throughout the day, eating foods that contain water is a great option for you to stay hydrated. Watermelon, cucumber, cauliflower, eggplant, red cabbage, peppers, spinach and broccoli are fruits and vegetables with high percentage of water.

Another interesting benefit for drinking water is that water suppresses the appetite naturally and helps the body metabolize stored fat. Studies have shown that a decrease in water intake will cause fat deposits to increase, while an increase in water intake can actually reduce fat deposits.

The right amount of water intake will depend on your individual lifestyle, health and where you live. The standard recommendation is to drink 8 glasses of fluids a day.

Remember to stay hydrated your skin, your mind, your hair and you body will thank you!
